Rossini drivers Jonathan Goring, Evan Karl, Jason Connole and Alex Acosta shine at VIR

This past weekend, the spectacular VIR track hosted the March into Spring SCCA Double SARRC / ECR / TCPS / ACP / SMX event

2015 Spec Miata National Champion, Jonathan Goring, fresh off a 2-year break was eager to try out his new Rossini built VVT Spec Miata, and was immediately up to speed, decimating the field and putting his new car on the pole, 6/10ths clear of the field. Evan Karl as also debuting his new VVT build and was quickly up to speed, executing in his own words, his “best ever qualifying run” in 3rd with Alex Acosta in 10th.

In Race 1, Marc Cefalo and Jonathan Goring had an epic battle with Cefalo coming out on top by less than a 10th of a second. Evan Karl was up front fighting for the lead, then made a small mistake and recovered to finish 3rd , giving Rossini drivers two spots on the podium. Brian Wright finished 10th, Joe Tobin 11th and Alex Acosta who started in last place drove to a very respectable 13th place.

And to highlight just how great our drivers are, Rossini driver Jason Connole, who has had an exceptional 2018 season in Spec Miata so far, stepped up into the Spec MX-5 class and went out and won the inaugural event! Nothing could make us more proud as Jason is almost a second son to us.

In the second Spec Miata qualifying session, in cold conditions, Goring went even faster and put his car on the pole by 8/10ths and ran a 2:14.493, under the existing VIR Spec Miata lap record. Evan Karl qualified on 5th with Alex Acosta in 7th.

In Race 2, after the start was waived off, Goring got to the early lead and was building a gap when the throttle cable broke off its mount and he had to retire. This allowed Cefalo to get to the lead where he had an epic battle to the lead with Tom Fowler of OPM Autosports. Karl was still getting to grips with his new car and was happy to finish on the podium in 3rd place his 2nd podium in two days in his new car. Alex Acosta finished in 6th place, and Joe Tobin in 9th.

The next race on the calendar is Road Atlanta Majors next weekend
